Introduction
“I have been asked for the fifth time this week to support other people’s work. Is this business-as-usual or am I being involved in a project?” asks David T, Business Analyst of a large Local Authority.
All organisations need to manage their “business as usual” activities, which are the normal day-to-day tasks that drive the business forward – these are stable, well understood and, to a large extent, predictable. Many times, though, organisations will need to deliver specific business products – or services or processes or systems, the introduction of which will lead to a change in the “business as usual” environment – hence they will need to create Project and Programme Management environments in order to organise work separately, be more efficient and deliver successful outcomes.
