FAQs - General

What kind of training do I need?

All Maven course outlines include learning objectives.  These will give you a strong indication as to its suitability, e.g., PRINCE2 Course.  Alternatively, call us on 020 7089 6161 and one of our advisers will be happy to help you.

If you’re starting from scratch our ‘Project Management Explained’ pages will help you.

A full list of courses can be found here – Maven courses

What should I look for in a training provider?

If you’re looking for a course that will give you a qualification then you should check the providers’ accreditations.  Accreditation typically means that the trainers, materials, courses and venue will have been approved by the appropriate professional body, giving you an independent quality check.
Maven is accredited by all of the major professional bodies in portfolio, programme, project and change management.

What style of training will be provided?

All training courses are high-quality classroom based courses delivered by expert trainers with a wealth of experience.

Are there pre-requisites?

Some courses do have pre-requisites.  These can be found on the course outline, e.g., MSP Foundation.  However, if you are unsure that you can meet the required pre-requisites please call one of our advisers on 020 7089 6161

How many other participants will there be on my course?

Our courses typically run with class sizes of 6 – 10 delegates.  This allows the trainer enough scope for personal attention whilst providing interaction with other participants.

When can I do the course?

Our courses run regularly at our training centres throughout the UK and our full course schedule will give you dates and locations for all courses.  All courses can also be tailored for in-house delivery either at your company site or at one of our UK training centres.

How long do qualifications remain valid?

The Foundation qualification has no expiry date so once you have this qualification it does not expire. The Practitioner qualification expires after five years, and there is a re-accreditation qualification that you can sit which is a paper approximately one third of the duration of the full Practitioner.

These answers apply to:
PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner
MSP® Foundation and Practitioner
MoR® Foundation and Practitioner
P3O® Foundation and Practitioner
Change Management™ Foundation and Practitioner
MoP™ Foundation and Practitioner (not yet available – coming in late 2011)
For the APM Introductory Certificate, the APMP and the APMP with prior learning (also known as APMP for PRINCE2) there is no expiry date so once you have your qualification you have it for life.

What happens if I fail an examination?

If you fail the Foundation level qualification then you cannot sit your Practitioner qualification. You must have a pass at Foundation level before you are able to sit the Practitioner. On a Maven Training course, we offer you the option of re-sitting the Foundation examination the same day, or you can re-sit later in the week if your marks were close to the pass mark. If your marks were significantly short of the pass mark, we will discuss further revision options before helping you to re-sit your examination.

If you fail the Practitioner examination you will be given a breakdown of your marks and we will invite you to call your trainer for a one-to-one discussion about what went wrong and to agree an action plan for improving your score before you re-book the examination. As with the Foundation qualification, you can re-sit the examination as often as you need to.

For the APM Introductory Certificate, the APMP and the APMP with prior learning (also known as APMP for PRINCE2) we will have to book a re-sit with the examining body separately as re-sits cannot be held during the course as this examining body uses an external invigilator.

What pre- and post-course support is provided?

Once you have booked your course, you will be given access to the Knowledge Centre.  This will give you access to pre-course and post-course materials including Quizzes, Hints and Tips, Project Management Templates, White Papers, Exam Papers, Vodcasts, Podcasts and much more.

How are trainers selected?

All our trainers are experienced practitioners and are accredited by the regulating bodies.

Where can I do the training?

Our courses run at training centres throughout the UK in London, Birmingham, Reading, Southampton, Glasgow, Maidstone and Milton Keynes.

However, all our courses can be tailored for in-house delivery at your premises or at one of our centres.

What is included in the price?

Your course materials, examination fees and lunch and refreshments are included throughout the course.  You also get FREE access to the Knowledge Centre giving you access to endless resources before, during and after your course.

What happens if I'm sick on the day of the training course and can't attend?

If you are sick on the day of the examination then we will re-book you a place on another course to sit your examination.

If you are sick and miss the training then we will re-schedule you onto another course. There will be charges for this and they will depend on the how much of the course you need to re-sit.

What happens if I want to cancel a training course booking?

The cancellation charges are set out in the Booking Form that you are asked to sign at the time of booking your course. Cancellation often means postponing the course as work or other issues prevent you from attending on that particular date, so we will discuss with you the next available date and re-book you onto this course. As you will already have your pre-course materials you will already been prepared for the course.

When will I get my results?

For the APM Introductory Certificate, the APMP and the APMP with prior learning (also known as APMP for PRINCE2)  you will be advised of their results within six weeks of completing the examination.

Results will be sent by post to the address indicated on the qualifications application form. Maven Training will also be notified of results for our records, unless otherwise stated on candidates application form.

For the APM Introductory Certification you will be graded on a pass/fail basis only so you will not receive a break down of your marks.

For the APMP and APMP with prior learning (also known as APMP for PRINCE2) you will receive notification of your total mark and the score achieved for each question and you will be given feedback for any questions they have failed.
