Programme Management as a career

The traditional career development path for Project Managers has been to manage projects of increasing complexity, budget and scope and then progress to Programme Management. However, Programme Management is an area, with an increasingly high profile and greater say in the strategic direction of the work being undertaken. The demand for the role of a Programme Manager is growing rapidly. In 2002 there were on average 5 Programme Management jobs advertised on a national job board covering construction, engineering and IT. In 2007 there are over 350 of these roles advertised daily, and this trend continues upwards.
