The focus of the workshop is on the Principles, Methods, Techniques and Practice of Planning using the PRINCE2™ Product Based Planning Approach. This is linked to a work Based Approach and the subjects of: Scoping, Estimating, Scheduling, Plan Levels, Monitoring and Reporting. A short case study is used to drive Delegate activities throughout the day.

· Learn methods that help define scope as a first step towards planning
· Appreciate how the PRINCE2™ Product Based Planning Approach fits with other Techniques, Methods and Tools
· Understand different estimating methods and techniques for their improvement
· Using Network Analysis and exploring its use with software planning tools

Course Content |
|
Introduction to Planning
· Overview of the purpose of and the outputs from planning
· How Planning is used as a means to manage Scope; Product and Work (activity) views of scope
Defining and Analysing Products
· Explain the Product-based Planning (PBP) Technique; creating Product Breakdown Structure (PBS)
Identifying Activities
· Review the links between the PBP and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Dependencies, Durations and Network Analysis
· Overview of planning tools and techniques and their use; exploring the Network Analysis approach
· Understand Critical Paths, Milestones and Methods to help compress a plan’s duration
Estimating
· Outline the principles of estimating: how time, cost and materials are factored into activities
· Explain various estimating techniques and how the PERT approach can improve accuracy
Scheduling
· Outline the principles of Scheduling and the limiting factors that should be considered within a Plan
· Explain the steps involved in Scheduling activities in a Plan
Plans
· Define various Plan levels and their value to organisations, Project Management teams and members
Understand Gantt (Bar) Chart views in plans, display of activities, dependencies and milestones |
