PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam Format Changes

The new exam format took effect from the 1st of September 2007 in the form of an open-book, three hour, examination based on a series of mini case studies. The information must be effectively analysed and prioritised to answer the questions. The pass mark is 180 out of 360.

This will not change the content of the course, only the way that delegates will learn to answer the exam questions as opposed to the previous essay style questions.

It is still possible to sit the Practitioner exam in the current style and we will still be holding courses using the current exam format. The current exam format would be most appropriate for delegates who:

  • Require re-registration and have previously sat the exam in the current format and are most comfortable with this style
  • Previously failed the Practitioner exam and wish to sit it again in the current style
  • Have recently taken the Foundation exam with Maven Training and their trainer mentioned or trained with a bias towards a written exam
  • Companies who have provided training for employees in the current style and want all employees to be trained in the same format

The new exam format would be most appropriate for delegates who:

  • Are new to adopt PRINCE2
  • Have not taken the Foundation exam with Maven Training, should take the new style Consolidation
  • Have a personal preference for the new style exam (or personal limitations mean they can't take a 3 hour written exam)
