Course Information

What is Lean Six Sigma Training Courses?

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that relies on a collaborative team effort to improve performance by systematically removing waste and reducing variation. It combines lean manufacturing/lean enterprise and Six Sigma to eliminate the eight kinds of waste (Muda). The eight kinds of waste are:

  • Transporting
  • Inventory
  • Motion
  • Waiting
  • Over-Processing
  • Over-Production
  • Defects
  • Under Utilisation of employees

The concept of Lean Six Sigma came into existence as a joint effort of Lean and Six Sigma. While  Lean aims to achieve continuous flow by tightening the linkages between process steps, Six Sigma focuses on reducing process variation (in all its forms) for the process steps thereby enabling a tightening of those linkages. Lean Six Sigma uses the DMAIC phases. Lean Six Sigma builds upon the 5S Lean technique used to keep the production workspace in order and the workforce committed. This 5S technique includes the 5 steps described below:

  1. Sort – Remove Unnecessary Waste
  2. Straighten – Everything Is In Place Meant For It
  3. Shine – Keep The Workplace Cleaning
  4. Standardize – There Should Be Systems and Procedures to Maintain Everything
  5. Sustain – Maintain Steps 1-4
